Trichlosan is banned in hand sanitizers, but used in other cosmetics. There's evidence to suggest that it induces antibiotic resistance in microbes. The active ingredient in this non-alcohol hand sanitizer - benzylconium chloride - is currently under investigation by the US Food and Drug Administration.
