I Think It's About Sound Symbolism, Not Phonological Giveaways
Teachers are being told to get away from these 'phaunological giveaways' These sounds immediately identify some owi someone says. I don't think it prepares them as well as they could be. Linguistic prejudice is a real issue. People say, whyat's interesting, but imit they hear a certain accent, oh, get away. You know's not much a whole team of linguists can do about that. But education is a start.
