The Importance of Intuitive Decisions in the Game
If Nepos is playing somebody beneath him, he'll be able to establish the tempo of the game and play intuitively. But if he's playing somebody who's putting consistent pressure on him, then the clock starts taking work. If you're getting like hour two or hour three, what he'll do is he will make impulsive decisions. And so the critical mistake in today's game, 9d4, he played that in under a minute. It was a very anti-intuitive move,. Why wouldn't you just defend your F4 pawn? Okay. So whether it was right or wrong, it was definitely a decision that required more time.
