Day to day is a funny expression that refers to things that happen every day, or within the space of a day. We usually use this phrase when we're talking about things that are repetative or not too exciting. Most fire fighters don't take out a hose and put out a blazing fire every day. But once in a while they jump into action and they have to fight a huge fire.
