Artemis Agrotera

Artemis believed that she had been chosen by the Fates to be a midwife, particularly since she had assisted her mother in the delivery of her twin brother Apollo. Her symbols included the Golden Bow and Arrow, the Hunting Dog, the Stag, and the Moon. In Greek classical art, though, she is usually portrayed as a maiden huntress, young, tall and slim, clothed in a girl's tunic, with hunting boots, a quiver, a bow, and arrows. The ancient travel writer Pausanias describes a relief that he saw at Olympia, showing the oldest representations of Artemis in archaic Greek art.
