Marcus garvey was elected the provisional president of africa. 25 thousand followers from harlem marched to madison square garden, where there would be this great racial sacrament. Garvey hoped johnson could use his connections to help him buy land in liberia. It was an incredibly radical idea. Many called it impossible. But as far as we know, garvey felt that he had a good chance. The idea was bold and seductive.
