It was already illegal under Russian law before the invasion of Ukraine to participate in protests that are unsanctioned or haven't been coordinated with the authorities. But after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Russia introduced some important additions to the criminal code. So now it's illegal to publicly and deliberately spread what authorities call false information about the use of Russia's armed forces.
