Why Monads Are Too Complex and No One Would Understand It

There are no checked exceptions added in Kotlin. And they don't respect checked exceptions from Java. So this is similar to a conversation that I had with some folks who were building a UI framework. They said, well, Monads are too complex and no one would understand it or all that. But wouldn't we rather them learn the right, the better way to do this than then propagating the wrong way? It's hard to know when you should go with the better way or not.
