The Importance of Living in Poverty

In the first eight or nine chapters of this book one of the things that really just so stuck out to me was how vivid and raw his descriptions of poverty and the underworld. The way that people are trying trying basically to just survive and then not just to survive but to either narcotize or find ways to assuage the poverty, he says. All too often we ignore the fact that within a few blocks it doesn't take walking a mile from most of where we all live to all of a sudden be among people that are living in squalor  and yet how many of us actually do anything about it?
