Why Does the Ocean Freeze?

The arctic is frozen, which that's where the north pole is. My understanding of this is because water is weird. Butwhy does the ocean freeze at all then? Because surely, in that case, cold water at the surface is going down,. Whire water's coming up, and then that will become more dense and sink down too. And then you'll never get any properlycold water at thesurface until the whole ocean is ready to freeze. Yes. So it is true in both lakes and the ocean that they freeze from the top, but it actually happens for slightly different reasons.
