The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1870
The Ku Klux Klan acts were passed in 1870 and 1871 by the republican reconstruction congress to provide the federal government with tools necessary to convict or prosecute people accused of attacking free and free blacks who are trying to exercise their right to vote. The act says it is a crime to interfere with the exercise that someone's constitutionally guaranteed rights um so the i think the echoes are kind of clear like the interfering with the exercise of people's constitutional rights in the late 1860s and early 1870s was not just attacking voters but really attacking elected governments throughout the south.
