The Door Is Open
A first century Jewish house would have looked something like this. The walls are most likely of basalt, which was a dark volcanic rock sealed in a certain way. roofs would have these beams and you can kind of see the little almost like stick things outside. It's a place where they would often do work on the top of the roof where they might lounge around. And then they have a courtyard. If the door was left open, it meant come on in. Almost all the time during the day, they lived in a culture where the door was opened.
