The Importance of Consensus
I think you find in liberalism that really everything can be brought under consensus. That consensus is universal not in that it's a precondition for all human action but that somehow every human disagreement can be resolved by consensus. So I don't in principle think that there's some logic of the notion of consensus which makes it literally incoherent or irrational simply to say well we're not going to look for consensus with those people. We have to find something else to do. Now then of course it's an open question what you might manipulate them, change the background conditions and so on.
