Is There a Lot You Can Do in Open Source?

Sophomore engineers are reading code so much more than they're writing it. Even if you don't contribute to open source, i think testing yourself to understand an open source repository is a really valuable skill from angle. I would do a like a musical chars at project, where everybody would have like four hours to work on a project and then it would rotate. That makes it so that you have to actually document the project and ate yourself on to somebody else's code.
