Some of your most memorable vignettes in the book deal with those who have tried to push back even gently against some of the taboos you're describing. And just as you were telling that Las Flourish, the name that popped into my mind was Edward Livingston. He was an editor at JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association. You talk about what happened when he very gently suggested that racism wasn't an all-explanatory variable or some of the phenomena.
