The summer that Reddit launched in 2005, Alexis' life kind of sort of went off the rails. Two months after we launched, his girlfriend had a pretty serious accident falling out of a five-story window. A month later, my mother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. And so you go from feeling invulnerable at 21 or 22 to start just months into starting a business.
