The Influence of My Mother on My Novel Big Amachi
I think my mother's influence was really really profound I think as you mentioned when she was in her 70s she penned this manuscript for my niece who was five years old at the time. That document was a great inspiration for me to set the novel in Kerala geography is perhaps the biggest decision you make as a novelist and so that was huge but more than my mother it was my my grandmother and my great grandmother by reputation who I really was celebrating because I think in many novels mothers are portrayed as evil or flawed You know?
