The Fed wants 2% inflation so that they could keep interest rates and justifiably keep interest rates on their Fed funds rate high enough. The closer you are to the zero bound, the less effective their policy tools are. So there's nothing magical about prices going down enough saving money. Long term rates are going to follow inflation. And I think CPI will be on an accelerated decline by May 10th 2023.
