The Power of Sacrifice
The sacrifice of an animal is a way to open yourself up to suggestions from intuition. Often the gods speak to you through things like the size and the shape of the liver. Zenofon here is really using that act to restrain himself in a way. And when Zenofon does this, the answer that he gets is don't try.
