17 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant. If we could use animal organs instead, could save over six thousand lives a year in this country alone. Both the pig hearts functioned normally inside the patients. They contracted and pushed blood throughout their bodies without help from a machine. But the doctors only observed the patients for 72 hours so there's a lot more we need to know about longer transplants.
