The Atrophy of the Reading Brain in Adults
The last thing I ever thought when I entered the world of research on the reading brain was that I would be as worried about adults as I am about children. In my new book, I have even called myself a farmer of children. But what I have come to realize is that the adults are changing as much as children. We are less immersed. We have a less contemplative dimension to our reading. Virtue is a discipline. It's part of being a critical cognitive human. And it requires not only cognitive but affective dimension.
