The Impact of the DH on Baseball Hit Rates

American League pitchers hit more batters than National League pitchers for 21 straight seasons. There's nothing to suggest that the presence of the DH had any impact on the frequency with which batters get hit over the past couple decades. Maybe we've just become more civilized in this respect and yeah maybe there's just generally less headhunting going on in MLB than there used to be.
