Augustine's Treatment of the Soul
Augustine sees reason, or the mind, as the highest function of the human soul. The desire for truth and its attainment is a sign of more distinctively Augustinian things to come in on the Trinity. Like a Tertullian before him, Augustine insists that the soul is not to be put on a par with God. This puts the Augustinian soul right where it is for other late ancient Platonists like Proclus.
