The Origins of the Theory of Descriptions

i think we can usefully identify three rather distinct ways in which russell's theory of descriptions was influential. We now teach it to our first year students as basically the right way to understand sentences that start with the word thean. But thenh the more broad methodological point is,  russell's approach to the theory of criptions is widely regarded as an absolute paradime of what we now call analytic philosophy. That combination of a focus on the big questions with approaching them careful attention to language very much characterizes the creed of twentieth and indeed 20 first century analytic philosophy.
