Introduction to the Argument Matrix
The basic elements of the matrix are propositions or statements, collected into sets and related to other statements by relations of logical entailment. The whole thing will still have a roughly hierarchical structure, but it'll be a more complicated structure than the strict hierarchy that i was describing originally. There are two features of an argument matrix that i want to talk about now. I call them argumentative depth and argumentative breadth. And we can use them to describe different types of background knowledge and how they relate to the fundamental goals of critical thinking.
