Woodpeckers have been around for 25 million years, so they've had a lot of time to evolve this amazing brain protecting anatomy. A special c shaped collar that wraps around the neck mimics the effect of the hioid in the woodpecker and actually gently presses on the jugular vein. The extra blood expands the brain, making it a tighter fit in the ull,. meaning less room for the brain to slosh around.
