The Importance of Sexual Relationships

The image of a Don Juan type is alien to Greek culture. Both married and unmarried men were free to engage in sexual intercourse with prostitutes or slaves. What was not acceptable was having sexual relations with another man's wife. Adulterous women were not permitted to attend religious rights conducted by the citizen body. If they disobeyed, the public was free to do to them any form of violence short of killing them.
