The Monument to the War of the Restoration

i think when this kind of all clicked for me was while i was on the border, and i was driving with nancy betanzes. You know, she's the woman we've been hearing from whose grandfather was involved in the massacre as a killer. And she wanted to show me this one place. In a big clearing in the forest, there's this huge, kind of brutalist thing two giant pieces of cement on a raised platform,. One horizontal and one vertical, with a bronze relief depicting this battle. It struck me that this monument represented this whole other possible narrative: not of hatians and dominicans in this eternal fight with each other, but as good neighbors working together towards
