The Role of Hormones in Compassion
From an evolutionary perspective, it makes sense that compassion is modifiable and context dependent for all kinds of reasons. So there are these contextual factors that influence whether we help or not and whether we feel compassion or not. It seems very clear that oxytocin may be a key neuropeptide that helps us understand that context-dependent nature. And then I do think it's so fascinating from the more societal and cultural side and social side, what are the factors that can enhance or facilitate compassionate responses?
