The Origins of the Indo-European Wolf Cult

In Rome we see it manifested in the Festival of Lupacalia, which derives from Lupus, meaning wolf. It involved bands of young men led by the brothers of the wolf, chasing young women through the streets and whipping them with goat-hide to make them fertile. We can't be certain the god of his cult was always the sky-father, but he seems the most likely candidate. The original, prehistoric, proto-Indo-European religion was practiced from 6.5 to 4.5 thousand years ago.
