Empathy in Medical School
Professors Jeremy Howick and LaSena Harris say doctors should sit down with their patients, but not for too long because they need to protect their backs. But on empathy's meter, I'm guessing as a doctor you can relate to some of this. Were there moments where you had to kind of suspend your empathy or where it was particularly difficult what you had to try and do? If you spot someone who is empathising with you, you're much more likely to like them and listen to them and hear what they're saying. So I think it is really important. And I agree with bits of what your both your research has said just now and what the medical students have said.
