The Importance of Sponsorship in Academic Medicine
sponsorship, and this comes again from the business literature, is the active public support by someone appropriately placed in the organization. A mentor can be a sponsor, but only if they're in a position of power and influence,. That's what we sort of call the sponsor-e, a protege, is interested in in terms of advancement. It provides credibility through access to professional networks and career advancing opportunities.
