Is There a Future in Artificial Intelligence?

Could you conceive of a reality in which people, guaranteed a universal basic income, might spend most of their lives playing games in virtual reality? Certainly very easy. But at this stage of technological maturity that you could imagine following, we would also have unprecedented control over ourselves. Many of the elements involved in these leisure activities could also be automated. And really, all instrumentally directed activity would, in a sense, become unnecessaryif you could just have a genius that made all your wishes come true. Yet, there's only one thing worse than not having your wishes granted, and that is having them granted.
