Ian McEwen believed in the dead and a live cat. He said it was stupid to say that if you can't see something, do you know it exists. In his latest novel he talks about a phone call from the police where they are ringing for his son. The father just assumes the kid is dead or has just had a big drunk night out. And that is the cat in the box. Both true until the wave function collapses and it becomes one or the other.
