On average it takes 20, 80 years from discovering a new field to actually getting any oil and gas out of the ground. This is effectively the government saying, here's a permission slip to go and explore or produce oil or gas. It could be a couple of decades at least before that actually produces anything, if it does. So again, this is one we need to keep bringing this home to what this means for us in the UK today," he says.
