The Evolution of Matsutake

Matsutake can jump continents and so it's incredibly rare that they can survive these trans continental journeys. The fungi, the mycelium, have these incredibly fine little threads that are so much finer than even the thinnest plant roots. They're able to extract water that for a tree would be utterly unextractable in the clays. Especially during the drought the underground mycelia are able to literally drill holes through grains of phosphorus,. baring sand and then use these digestive juices to extrude them.
