Is There a Separation of Powers in American Democracy?
Egypt's constitution that was drafted in 2012 did have significant separation of powers. Was it enough? I think that most new constitutions do acknowledge checks and balances. They aren't necessarily concentrating power in the hands of one person. But those are mechanisms. They're not about substantive ends. And that's where constitution drafting really matters.
