Zapyrus and the Babylonians
Zapyrus was given command of a few troops by the Babylonian magistrates. He had left instructions to station Persian soldiers at particular gates armed only with daggers. Marching from Babylon, he killed seven thousand Persians in less than two weeks. The soil outside the city gates glistened crimson with median blood.
