Charles calls back to our breakthrough in AI in the area of grading written essays from many years ago. Using vector space models of words, you could predict the same score for AP English writing essay as a human being. As a result, Charles then argued, these tools are actually more limited than what they might seem at present. They're really good at translation, but they're not designed to build new ideas that don't yet exist.
