The Importance of Type in Screen

The DAT test is the direct anti-globulin test, meaning we're directly looking at what is on that red cell. In forward typing, you are trying to say if you have the patient's blood type, but you don't know what antigens they express. So for example, if the patients' red blood cells react with anti-A, but not with anti-B antibodies, then you know that their ABO type is likely going to be a type A. And so based on that pattern of a gluteination, you can tell what their ABO status is. But basically, that's the fundamental concept behind a forward and reverse typing.
