The Effects of the Shot the Air's Principle on the pH of a Solution
Shot the air's principle says that equilibrium between weak acid and its conjugate bases is going to be pushed in the direction such that we have added all these different molecules. So, as we add a base and the base molecules are soaking up hydrogen ions, more hydrogen ions are just being dumped back into the solution. And therefore, the concentration of hydrogen stays roughly constant and the pH of the solution doesn't change. Now, you might wonder, well, can this occur forever? Surely, if we just keep adding acid or keep adding a base, then something must happen. And yes, the answer is yes. Eventually, you reach a sort of saturation point where either all of the conj
