What Is an Epiphany?
An epiphany is the manifestation of the divine to an audience. That audience is often human, but it doesn't have to be so. In the homeric hymn to aphrodite we see animals fawning and dancing around her. She's manifesting the natural world. So you can manifest to the divine world. The other way in which manifestations of the divine can happen is in natural phenomena. A huge and unnatural wave hitting the side of the ship could be understood as a manifestation of poseidon.
