The Cracker Story by Tom Smith
Tom smith was a confectioner, but he did not invent the cracker. It was actually his brother, who's h j smith, who worked in the music halls. He would have had an standing of both stage magic and silver filaments that were used in the early crackers to be able to put them together. The tom smith cracker company still exists,. and it makes the official crackers for the royal family. They presumably like still that the romantic story they do.
