We need to modernize Britain. Well, again, yes, but what precisely does that mean? And as we've discussed many times on this podcast, centrist is another term which people use without any precision at all. So I think we're in this era of imprecise terms because they're a replacement for the kind of deep thinking, great, passionate battles around values and the policies that arose from them. Until we get on to these bigger debates, there will be utterly banal arguments about whether ex is a bully or anti reform.
