Is There a General Tendency for Over Time Stories to Hold on to or Add More Memorable Things to It?

Is there a general tendency for over time stories to either hold on to or add content biases, but maybe not lose them? I'm just wondering if anyone's done this kind of analysis of over time, how this plays out with something like Little Red Riding Hood. No, I don't think that they do just accumulate because of course, another constraint on the transmission stories is that a story needs to be coherent and make sense.
