The book is about two different lenses through which to look at the world. Class, which seems in many ways dominant in brittain, for perhaps it sometimes conceals the importance that race plays in britain. When i get to the united states in 19 89 and come to boston, it's such a real shock to the system. It's instantaneous unavoidable. And so how did your perception of these both forms of sort of stratification and te way the e inter relate, change and evolved as you came to know the united states?

Fiona Hill is the former Senior Director for Europe and Russia of the National Security Council under President Trump and a key witness in his first impeachment trial. She is Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. In her latest book, There Is Nothing For You Here: Finding Opportunity in the Twenty-First Century, she describes her journey from the post-industrial north of England to the world of academia at Harvard and the corridors of power in Washington, D.C.
