Is It Possible to Excrete Hydrogen Ions as Ammonium?

There's a lot of literature about the fact that we give way too much fluid in DKA. If you don't lose them they're potential sources of base because just like lactate and citrate and acetate they can go back and make bicarb. The body adapts to a significant acid load is by generating ammonium for excretion which gets rid of a lot of the daily acid load or whatever this increase acid load so when you have a challenge to get rid of acid load we don't increase titraderbal acid but ramp up our ammonium excretion.
