Kes Japanese Preface That's Remembered
The kokin chu has two prefaces, one in japanese by kinot the yuki and one in chinese by his cousin, yoshi mo. The preface is generally pretty unremarkable; it's just a regurgetation of existing chinese aesthetic ideas about where poetry comes from. From here, tsura yuki moves into a history of japanese poetry, from the age of the gods until the present. He makes an argument for the grandeur of Japans native poetic tradition while also noting thatt nowadays, because people are concerned tgorgeous appearances and their hearts admire ostentation, insipid poems have appeared.
