The Creation Was Subjected to Frustility
If man lived forever, then his sin would have much greater and far less mitigated effects. Subjecting the creation to futility was always only temporary. The intention was always that it would be released from that futility when its stewards were restored. In Christ however, we see power over the creation, especially Christ's power to overcome the futility of the creation and the power of death at work within it.
