There is no one greek view for the early church fathers to uncritically adopt. The bible speaks of divine love, compassion, long suffering, grief, jealousy, joy and anger. But the bible also ascribes hands, face and other body parts to god. So how should we understand such statements? Does god literally have hands? does god experience emotions in a manner that humans experience them?
